Description
Objectives
This programme aims to give learners knowledge and skills required by employers in a variety of accounting and accounting support roles. They may undertake Accounting Technician positions with responsibilities for recording and compiling summaries of financial transactions of organisations for management purposes. This learners will be able to:
- Prepare financial reports, operational budgets and income tax returns.
- Manage budgets and forecasts.
- Establish and maintain accounting information systems
- Implement and maintain internal control procedures.
- Monitor corporate governance activities.
- Process payrolls.
- Understand business tax requirements and income tax returns.
- Manage accounts payable.
- Manage accounts receivables.
- Establish and maintain accounting information systems.
- Implement and maintain internal control procedures.
Enhancing Career Opportunities
Accounting Technicians work in all parts of industry and commerce including financial institutions, retail stores and other businesses. The programme will benefit anyone wanting to begin a solid career in an accounting firm/environment, decision-makers either running a small-to-medium business or department managers in a larger organisation, practicing Bookkeepers, anyone managing a business, business managers or employees responsible for budgets, forecasts and financial reporting. After completion, candidates may look for jobs as
- Assistant and part-qualified Accountants.
- Accounts Clerk and Administration
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- ClerksGeneral/Other: Accounting.
- Payroll and Benefits Administration.
Entry Requirements
- Candidates must have obtained at least four (4) Credits at BGCSE (or equivalent) including a pass in English language.
- Candidates who have a Credit in Accounting, Mathematics, Business Studies will have an advantage.
- OR Candidates who have successfully completed a relevant 12 months Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) recognised and accredited Certificate Programme in Accounting
- All pre-service applicants must successfully complete the BA ISAGO six month Foundation/Access/Bridging Courses.
- A higher qualification in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Special Entry: Candidates who do not have minimum academic qualifications stated above but have a minimum of three years relevant work experience will be considered. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be used as an instrument for further assessment of mature-age entry candidates.
Programme Structure
The Diploma programme will run over a duration of twenty-four months for full-time learners and thirty months for part-time learners (four semesters in twenty four-months, consisting of six months each).Learners will be required to undertake work learning attachment/research project within the last semester before completion of the programme.The programme is divided into 15 core modules.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed on the basis of the following:
- Coursework
- Mid-term examinations
- Workplace Attachment
- Final examinations
Lectures
Lectures are held as follows:
- Part-time: 17.30-20.00 Monday to Friday
- Full-time: 8.00- 17.00 Monday to Friday
