Prof Barbra Mapuranga
Professor Barbra Mapuranga is a distinguished academic, holding a Ph.D. in Disability Studies, a master’s in special education, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. She also has certificate in Module writing, Sing language training, Pastoral ministry and other qualifications. With 14 years dedicated to primary education and an additional 15 years in university settings, Professor Mapuranga stands out as a leader in the field of disability and gender.
Her scholarly contributions are extensive, including the authorship of 52 articles in refereed journals, the development of 14 modules in Special and inclusive Education, and the creation of 9 textbooks widely used in primary schools and tertiary institutions. Professor Mapuranga has also presented at over 20 national, regional, and international conferences, showcasing her expertise and commitment to inclusive education as well as gender issues through workshops and webinars.
Professor Mapuranga is an active member of several organizations, notably serving as the regional coordinator for FAWEZI (Forum for African Women Educationalists in Zimbabwe) and contributing significantly as Chair, Treasurer, and Publicity Secretary within Zimbabwean Academic and Non-fiction Authors Association (ZANA). Beyond academia, Professor Mapuranga’s community engagement is evident through her board membership in the Apostolic Faith Mission Education Board. Her involvement extends to membership in the Sign Language Interpreter Association of Zimbabwe (SLIAZ) and active participation in the Inclusive Education Forum (IEF).
Professor Mapuranga’s versatile skill set extends to marketing university brands and effectively recruiting students, demonstrating a holistic approach to education and community development that goes beyond the confines of traditional academia. Currently she is serving as Acting Dean for Teaching and Learning at Ba Isago University.
