Description

Objectives : 

The Bachelor of Education (General) is a four years programme which enables students to specialize in both primary and secondary level of education. The specific objective is to allow the graduates of colleges of education who specialized in Primary education and NPDE graduates an articulate route to further their education. The programme fosters students’ ability to communicate information, articulate ideas, conduct research and impart knowledge effectively. It also assists students acquire / gain knowledge, develop skills and attitudes that will enable them to deal with issues in an analytical and practical manner. This degree programme is designed to produces teachers who will be able to collate, analyze, interpret and present data adeptly and make reasonable judgments. It also aims to produces teachers with competencies that will enable them to make sound and critical analysis of educational issues with a view to reflecting on them when presenting content or subject matter in a teaching learning scenario.

Entry Requirements :
  1. Candidates must have obtained at least five (5) Credits at BGCSE (or equivalent) including a pass in English Language. OR
  2. Candidates must have a diploma in Secondary Education or equivalent qualification from any institution recognized in the SADC region or elsewhere. N.B. Applicants in possession of a Diploma in Secondary Education should apply for exemption for year one and two of the programme.OR
  3. Special Entry: Candidates who do not have minimum academic qualifications stated above, but have a minimum of three years relevant work experience will be considered. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be used as an instrument for further assessment of mature-age entry candidates


Programme Structure : 

  1. 1. The Degree programme will run over duration of 48 months (4 years) for full-time students and sixty months (5 years) for part-time students (eight semesters in forty eight-months, consisting of six months each and 10 semesters in sixty months of six months each respectively)
  2. . Learners will be required to undertake teaching practice after completing the first two years of the programme.


Assessment : 
Students will be assessed on the basis of the following:

Lectures : 
Lectures are held as follows:

  • Full-time: 8.00- 17.00 Monday to Friday
  • Part-time: 17.30-20.00 Monday to Friday
