RATIONALE 

In a world that is currently faced with climate, environmental, and socio-economic issues, the Landscape Architecture profession offers a dynamic field with plenty of career opportunities for Batswana youth, who are currently faced with unemployment. The proposed one-year Certificate in Landscape Design Construction is designed to target individuals working in the landscape architecture industry with minimal or no qualifications. It also targets the high school leavers and the unemployed youth who have a passion for a career in landscape and can be trained to be future leaders in creating sustainable inclusive environments. This qualification also responds to a niche in the Botswana market, and will be the first of its kind. Furthermore, there are currently fewer institutions in Africa that offer professional Landscape Architects training. However, with the growing concerns on sustainable development issues worldwide, skills training and development of landscape architects on green engineering is crucial.

The purpose of the Certificate in Landscape Design Construction is to produce graduates with broad technical knowledge, skills and competences to:

• Develop and maintain landscape projects for residential and commercial settings.
• Construct functional and inclusive public spaces that addresses environmental and conservation needs
• Create artistic landscape design that addresses site conditions, environmental and green infrastructure planning.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

• Applicants must have at least NCQF Level IV or equivalent with a pass in English Language.
• Candidates who do not meet the minimum academic qualifications stated above will be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process which shall be administered according to the National RPL Policy. There will also be provision for Credit Accumulation Transfer to the learner in a case they are transfer in from another institution as per National Policy on CAT.

PROGRAMME DURATION 

The programme will run over a duration of 1 year on a full-time basis.
