Dr Tariro Madyise
Coordinator: Centre for Climate Change and Entrepreneurship
The Climate Change and Entrepreneurship Centre (CCEC) under the Faculty of the Built Environment, Arts and Science was established in 2019 with a mandate to address matters relating to the Environment and Climate Change. Globally, Nations are experiencing severe, catastrophic weather patterns and a significant number of Countries are bearing the brunt of the negative effects of Climate Change. BA ISAGO University, just like Botswana, is conscious of the impact of Climate Change which necessitated the establishment of the Centre in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Nairobi, which is the first of its kind in the Sub-Saharan Region. The Centre is driven by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with Goal No. 13 of ‘Climate Action’ being the critical Pillar to note.
The Centre seeks to bridge the gap between Research and practical implementation of relatable Climate action that unlocks tangible Socio-Economic benefits. The guiding principles and goals of the Centre include promotion of Youth-led Climate action and inclusive innovations within Communities and Societies while building strong Economic foundations to promote Sustainable livelihood outcomes and food security with Community engagement and capacity building. The Centre allows Student Community engagement through participation of Learner-led Clubs such as Conserve to Sustain which always actively contribute to Community development through initiatives on Climate Change awareness, Clean-up Campaigns, Waste Recycling Projects and other Sustainability-driven outreach Programmes. In addition, the Centre collaborates with other Youth Organisations in and out of Botswana to drive its main goal of involving young people in topical issues such as Climate Change.
