On October 20, 2022, the Faculty of the Built Environment, Arts and Sciences (FBEAS) inaugurated the first Climate Change and Entrepreneurship Centre. The event took place at the BA ISAGO University Convention Centre, themed "Climate Change and Entrepreneurship: An Opportunity for Africa."

In introducing the Centre's mandate, Professor Branko Cavric, Dean of the Faculty of the Built Environment, Arts and Sciences, stated that the Centre's primary focus will be on research and training to boost the University’s research output through workshops and short courses aimed at professional development in Climate Change. He highlighted the significance of this occasion, noting the Centre's international collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).

UNDP Resident Representative in Botswana, His Excellency Mr. Balázs Horváth, discussed the importance of incentives for entrepreneurs to combat climate change through carbon pricing. He emphasized the urgent need for a global shift to renewable energy to achieve zero GHG emissions, stating, "We can either act now at a lower cost or delay and face higher costs and risks that will limit our options."

Keynote speaker Dr. Richard Munang, Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Environmental Programme, presented on Climate Action Entrepreneurship as a pathway for transformational development. He proudly noted that this Centre is the first of its kind in Africa and commended the University for empowering youth to innovate solutions that will elevate the continent's progress. He stated, "The built environment is significantly impacted, so our primary goal is to foster climate action for current and future entrepreneurs." He concluded by asserting that while the Centre is based in Botswana, its influence will extend across Africa and beyond, highlighting BA ISAGO University’s role in championing climate action entrepreneurship.

Mr. O. B. Gabasiane, BA ISAGO’s Managing Director, passionately addressed the University’s role in combating climate change. He pointed out that the climate crisis affects everyone in Africa, and Botswana is particularly vulnerable, underscoring the necessity of establishing such a Centre. He mentioned various initiatives the University has adopted to mitigate climate change, including creating green spaces that have become its hallmark. He added, "The University is committed to rainwater harvesting, recycling greywater for gardens, and utilizing boreholes." He emphasized that the academic staff are actively seeking solutions to climate change challenges through events like Research Days and International Conferences, leading to the establishment of this unique Centre in Africa.
