The month of June marks a significant milestone for BA ISAGO University as it proudly participated in the Launch of the Botswana Youth, Women and Citizens (BYWC) Programme, an initiative implemented in collaboration with the Presidential Youth Empowerment Campaign (PYEC). The Programme represents a strategic partnership between government and industry stakeholders aimed at creating a structured and sustainable pathway for Botswana's youth, women and citizens to access opportunities within the country's emerging Oil and Gas sector.  

The BYWC Programme was officially Launched by the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Honourable Lesego Chombo on the 1st June 2026, who delivered the keynote address. She emphasised the importance of empowering youth and women to participate meaningfully in strategic industries, describing the initiative as "a national mission" aimed at creating opportunities and driving economic transformation.  

Welcoming guests to the Launch, BA ISAGO’s Managing Director, Mr Odirile Gabasiane, highlighted the University's 25-year commitment to human capital development and industry-responsive education. He described the Programme as an example of "what becomes possible when leadership, entrepreneurship, education and development come together around a shared purpose."  

As Botswana continues to diversify its economy and Programme was developed to serve as a vital platform for skills development, industry exposure and workforce readiness.  

A key component of this initiative is a free, intensive 10-day Masterclass facilitated by BA ISAGO and hosted at the University of Botswana. The Training was specifically designed to equip participants with industry-relevant knowledge and practical insights, enabling them to move beyond simply understanding the sector to actively pursuing career and business opportunities within it.  

The Programme attracted nationwide participation, with 1,000 trainees selected from all 61 constituencies across Botswana. This broad representation reflected the Programme's commitment to inclusivity and equitable access to opportunities, ensuring that young people, women and citizens from every part of the country can benefit from emerging prospects in the energy sector. The participants are expected to graduate on the 27th June 2026.

The success of the BYWC Programme was made possible through the collaboration and support of several strategic partners, including the Government of Botswana, the PYEC, Seth Resources Petroleum, eMangweni Business Solutions, BA ISAGO University, the University of Botswana, Tactical Emergency Rescue, Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) and Weekend Post. Together, these partners built a Programme designed to deliver meaningful industry impact and create lasting opportunities for Botswana's future workforce.  

Through initiatives such as the BYWC Programme, BA ISAGO continues to play a pivotal role in advancing skills development, economic participation and empowerment for the next generation of leaders and professionals in Botswana.
